I bought this for my husband for a birthday present and it works great. We haven't had one before to compare it to, but it does everything we want it to do. The screen is easy to see and the night setting is great. I'm glad I paid extra for the spoken street names it works great when your driving in an unfamilar town.

Having owned a Magellan system for several years I am impressed by the simplicity, accuracy and speed (to recalculate route) of the Garmin 255W, particularly considering it cost about a third of my original unit. My wife, who is technologically dyslexichas found the system easy to operate and has had no difficulty in entering addresses and setting up routes.

I found the Garmin 255w a great product. It is helpful to hear the names and be reminded when a turn comes. In addition the next turn is displayed on the top. I took the Garmin to some remote places in Kentucky and it worked well. There were even places that were not on the map, but the longitude and latitude helped me in getting back over there.

I love the Garmin GPS's. The fact that they update their maps on a regular basis is definately a plus. I think they overcharge a bit, however, for the updates. The unit, though, is very nice and easy to use. This particular model is a very good value given the features it has.

I just got mine from amazon.com and been playing with it today. I love it already. I could have bought a navigation system with the car but decided to save money and buy the garmin instead. Save your money and get one of these units. If you have older parents, get them one for Christmas or something just for safty.
