Consumer Reports rated this unit one of the best basic units so I bought it. They were correct. For the money, you can't beat it.

I wanted a navigation system after getting lost on a road trip. This is a great, basic navigation system. It gets you from Point A to Point B in the shortest amount of time. There are some features that I like -- you can add custom points of interest (such as favorite restaurant chains or your bank's atms so that you can quickly search for the closest one), you can exclude certain roadways (avoid all dirt roads, etc.), and it truly does take you the shortest way possible (on a recent trip I shaved off20 minutes by taking backroads vs. the longer highway approach).

I really don't know how I was able to survive before I got a GPS. My first one was a Garmin and I gotta say I lucked out! Everyone else I know has not been happy with other brands and always ended up with a Nuvi. Having said that, I just upgraded from a 200 to a 260. Same outstanding product, but the text to speech makes well worth the extra money. I have to agree some of the other reviews concerning such things as turns coming a little too late, annoying voice, recalculates for no reason and the time of arrival does not update as well as I would like it to. But all in all these are very minor annoyances and in no way detract from the usefulness of this thing! Trust me when I tell you that it has been a life saver for me. And there is no better brand out there than the Garmin right now. Get the 260 and you will not be disapointed! (well, maybe just a tiny bit...)"

We keep this unit turned off and only turn it on when needed. If we forget to turn it on 10 minutes before we leave for a trip, we find ourselves staring at the screen waiting for it to acquire satelites for up to a full 5 minutes. Often, we end up finding our way before we can even input the data into the unit. It is disappointingly slow to get started

I had a Lowrance unit that only gave criptic directions and did not announce the street names unless it was a major highway. This unit gives us the names of the streets and has a MUCH better POI database.

I never leave home without it!. I moved to New Orleans, LA about 8 months ago and I am still trying to navigate my way around the city ... especially with a lot of the street signs still not up since Katrina. I had a friend who had a TomTom and I really thought that would be a good investiment for me, but the more I read about TomTom the less I liked about it.

We purchased this over a month ago and don't regret the decision. It is very easy to use and is particularly helpful when you need to take a back road to avoid the DC traffic snares. The screen is large enough so it is easily read while driving and ithas a variety of setup options so you can tailor the display mostly to your liking. We have used it almost everyday since we purchased it.

Saved a couple of grand on my Honda but buying this unit instead of theres. Gets my there at $2000 less than the built in unit. I did not need all that fancy stuff that came with Honda's unit. I spent the extra money on a trip tp Hawaii!!
