Review: The Garmin Nuvi 260W
The Garmin Nuvi 260W is an easy to use GPS system that features widescreen, and has the ability to speak street names as part of its text to voice technology. The Nuvi 260W has many of the same great features of the other 200 series models, but comes with a wider screen, and this model uses voice to text technology to let the driver know the street name of the next turn, as apposed to just saying that a turn is coming up in 200 feet. This feature allows the driver to keep his eyes on the road, instead of having to look down at the GPS system in order to find out the name of the next road where they will have to turn.
With the Garmin Nuvi 260 W you will get some of the most popular features that are sought in a GPS system, while many of the extras have been eliminated in order to keep the price affordable. You won’t get all the frills with the 260 W, but you will easily get from point A to point B by using this device.
The internal antenna makes the 260 W thinner and even easier to mount in a car, which causes far less frustration as you may get when trying to mount some GPS systems. The Garmin Nuvi 260 W welcome screen features “Where To” and “View Map” options that allow users to quickly find a specific street address or business name, in addition to the ability to search for a destination by category.
With this GPS system you will receive step-by-step verbal directions that help to guide you to your chosen destination. If for some reason you miss your turn or get off track, the Nuvi 260 W will automatically recalculate your route and give you new directions.
This model also comes with preloaded detailed mapping of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico; you will also get over six million points of interest that include hotels, restaurants, ATMs, gas stations, and more. There is also the ability for the user to add custom points of interest POI's from third parties, such as school zones and safety cameras.
In addition to these features, get a built-in picture viewer, calculator, currency converter, unit converter and world clock. As an optional add on you can purchase the Garmin Travel Guide and Garmin Language Guide.
The Garmin Nuvi 260 W comes with a cup mount, and a power cable for your car; additionally you can choose to purchase the optional AC power adapter for faster charges outside of the car. The main drawback to this Garmin model is the price, though you may be able to find it for less at online discount stores.
